Truck wrecks are frequently caused by distracted driving

Drivers these days face an abundance of distractions like cellphones and other gadgets that can take focus off of the road. Every year, distracted driving causes thousands of injuries and deaths in Georgia and across the country. Even though commercial truck drivers undergo training and are required to obtain special licenses, they too can lose focus behind the wheel. Since tractor-trailers are so massive, truck wrecks have a greater chance of being serious or fatal.

Recently, a truck accident in Turin allegedly caused by distracted driving resulted in a woman suffering serious injuries. The wreck happened just before 5:30 a.m. at a roundabout along Highway 16. According to reports, a tractor-trailer was headed east on Highway 16 when the truck driver failed to negotiate a roundabout and crashed into a car. Reportedly, the collision sent both vehicles into a nearby ditch where the tractor-trailer came to rest on top of the car.

Authorities said the driver of the car was seriously injured and transported to a hospital for treatment. Reports from the Georgia State Patrol said the driver of the tractor-trailer later admitted to using a cellphone just before the wreck and did not realize he was entering a roundabout intersection. The crash remains under investigation.

Constant focus and attention are required to safely operate massive vehicles like tractor-trailers. Losing focus for just a split second is enough to cause a serious accident. Georgia residents who have suffered injuries or the loss of loved ones due to negligence in truck wrecks have the right to consult a legal representative and file a claim. Damages from a successful lawsuit can help with medical expenses and ease the pain and suffering of victims and families.
