It goes without saying that driving under the influence of alcohol is one of the most dangerous and reckless things a person can do. Despite public awareness campaigns and tireless law enforcement efforts, drunk driving continues to be a problem that plagues the state of Georgia. Every year in the United States, thousands of innocent lives are lost in motor vehicle wrecks caused by drunk driving.
Recently, a father lost his life in a wreck allegedly caused by a drunk driver. The crash happened along Interstate 95 during the early morning hours. According to reports, an SUV was traveling southbound on I-95 when it was suddenly struck from behind by a sedan. Reports said the collision caused the SUV to overturn multiple times and eject a passenger.
Tragically, the ejected passenger died at the scene of the crash, authorities said. Reportedly, he was traveling with his wife, son and nephew who were also in the SUV but escaped with minor injuries. Police said they found the driver of the sedan walking along the side of I-95 and arrested him on suspicion of drunk driving. He was charged with DUI, hit-and-run resulting in death or injury and other serious charges.
It’s common knowledge that driving while under the influence of alcohol is incredibly dangerous and irresponsible, yet people still do it. Families in Georgia who have suffered the loss of a loved one due to negligence in motor vehicle wrecks have the option to take legal action. Damages from a successfully litigated lawsuit could help recoup financial losses and pay end-of-life expenses.
